General Notes:
From "Lost Mariners of Shelburne County", "Arthur J. Lloyd, son of Robert and Asenath (Williams) Lloyd. He married and lived in the states and had one daughter. Arthur was widowed and was about fifty-eight years old at the time of his death, 1 January 1942. He was a big man, about 300 pounds. He was out 'single dorying'with Captain Rosco Stephens, from the the two-dory vessel ETTA. During a snowstorm, Arthur got out of sight of the Etta. After a day's search for Arthur, the captain assumed that a man alone in a dory could not survive the storm. This reasoning was enhanced by some mention that the crew had seen one ot both of Arthur's oars, but no other sign of wreckage. Several days later the Etta came across the dory, still upright and containing Arthur's body. Arthur Lloyd died from exposure. From the condition of the dory Arthur had been alive when the search was abandoned. There was no water in the dory and it was assumed he had been able to collect it and drink it.. Further evidence of Arthur's effort to save himself was revealed by the missing risings which he had torn from under the seats to use as make-shift oars." Leslie Richardson
Arthur married Mabel Sears, daughter of John Henry Sears and Susan Jane Connell. (Mabel Sears was born on 19 Jul 1896 in Lower Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia 1 and died on 25 Aug 1968 in Revere, Massachussetts, USA 1.)
